Drop-Off Time: Sunday, November 3rd, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Pick-up Time: Sunday, November 17th, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Greater Jacksonville Fairgrounds - Exhibit Hall "A"
General Rules: The contest is open to residents of Duval County and /or members of The Jacksonville Beekeeper's Association.
Only one entry per category will be allowed.
The contest will consist of the following categories:
1. Extracted Honey - Four categories: Light, Amber, and Dark Entries, plus a Novice Class.
• All Extracted Honey Entries will be judged by the Welch Honey Judging standards.
• Extracted Honey entries, with the exception of Novice Class will consist of three (3) queen line jars unless this presents an undue hardship.
• Novice Class – This class is for exhibitors that have never won at any level in any honey show. Exhibitors need only submit one (1) bottle, but must conform to rules for other classes of extracted honey.
2. Black Jar Honey
• Black Jar entries will need to provide eight (8) ounces of honey. Jars for Black Jar entries will be provided by the Jacksonville Beekeeper's Association.
3. Creamed Honey
• Creamed honey must be 3 entries. They must be shown in straight sided, clear glass, 8 oz. jars (jelly jars), with a screw top or twist off lid, all being identical. Tamper proof seals are not required, in fact, discouraged. Entries will be judged by Welch Honey Judging guidelines. One I.D. label (provided by Show Steward) is required per jar.
4. Photographs
• Photographs must be 8 x 10 in size, framed or mounted on a piece of stiff card . Photograph must be Bee related and must be accompanied by a visible 3 x 5 card with title and explanation, attached to the back of photograph. Exhibitor's name must not be shown. The identification label should be centered on the bottom of the frame or card and must be designed where it does not hide any part of the entry and secured so it will not be lost or separated from the entry.
5. Artistry (i.e., painting, woodworking, beeswax art, etc., but not photography in this category)
• Must be Bee related and must be accompanied a visible 3 x 5 card with title and explanation, which is preferably attached. Exhibitor's name must not be shown. The identification label should be centered on the bottom of the frame or object and designed where it cannot be lost or separated from the entry.
6. Candles: Entries will consist of three (3) identical candles; either molded, dipped, or rolled.
• Molded tapers must have flat, finished bases. The wicks must be trimmed to one-half (1/2) inch
in length. Dipped tapers should have the last drip left on and the wicks must be left joined. One candle of each entry could possibly be burned.
7. Gadgets:
• Gadgets related to bees or beekeeping must be accompanied by a visible 3x5 card with title and explanation, which is preferably attached. Due to the uniqueness of this category, an explanation is of utmost importance. The usefulness of your gadget may not be apparently obvious. As stated previously, exhibitor’s name must not be shown.
• Only one entry per category will be allowed.
• Entries will be received on Sunday, November 3rd, 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. Late entries will not be accepted.
• Pick-up time will be Sun., Nov. 17th, after 7 P.M., or at the following Jacksonville Beekeeper’s Association meeting, 7:00pm – 8:15pm, located at
1010 N. McDuff Avenue, Jacksonville, FL, 32254.
• Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category as well as one "Best of Show."
• Cash prizes in the amount of $15 for 1st Place, $10 for 2nd Place, $5 for 3rd Place and $25 for "Best of Show" will be awarded by the
Jacksonville Beekeeper's Association.
• Do not label products in any way with the exception of Artistry and Photography. An identifying code sticker will be assigned to your entry at registration.
• Judging criteria are selected at the discretion of the judge. All decisions by the judges are final.
