LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST

Saturday, November 6th
Superintendent: Duval County Extension
Registration: 8:30 A.M.  - Coaches / Parents Meeting 8:45 A.M.   
Contest: 9:00 A.M.  -  Location: Arena

NEW:  At the conclusion of each contest, the contest supervisor will have a form that must be completed by the individual winners. This form will require their name, address and SS#.  A winner who fails to supply their social security number will forfeit all premium money for this contest.  

 

  1. Registration will take place on site prior to the Judging Contest. 4-H Club and FFA contests will be separate.
  2. There will be a coach's/ parent's meeting at 8:45 a.m. to review the rules and receive volunteer positions for the contest.
  3. Livestock Judging Teams shall consist of four (4) bona fide 4-H Club or FFA Chapter Members. Team members should wear appropriate 4-H or FFA attire. 4-H Junior, Intermediate and Senior Division Contests will be separate.  Junior Team members will be ages 8-10 as of September 1st, 2010.  Intermediate Teams will be 11-13 as of September 1st , 2010.  Senior Team Members will be ages 14-18 as of September 1st, 2010.  FFA participants in the Junior Division will be Junior High students, for Senior Division, Senior High students.  Individuals not on a team will judge.  A team may participate with 3 members if needed. The top 3 scores will count for team score.
  4. Participants will be asked to give 1 to 2 classes of oral reasons.
  5. Awards will be given in 4-H to Junior, Intermediate and Senior Teams and FFA to Junior and Senior Teams
  6. You must judge on a team to qualify for individual awards. Those not on a team may judge but will not qualify for any awards.
  7. Coaches and parents are not allowed to make contact with participants during the contest.
  8. Use of cell phones or talking by the contestants during the contest is strictly forbidden.
  9. Contestants will  be given 15 minutes for reason classes and 12 minutes for non-reason classes.
  10. Animals may not be handled by contestants during the contest.
  11. After each class the judging cards will be collected and the contest official will give the placing and reasons on class except for the reason class.
  12. On reason class the judge will announce the placing and give reasons, after all contestants have finished giving reasons.
  13. This is not a Modified Danish System contest.
  14. All checks will be mailed.
